About our Rider of the Month, Lisa!Hi, my name is Lisa. I have been a member of Mangere Pony Club for more that 30 years. I have a new young horse called Finn (Finn McCool) who is a QH x SB, and he is 4 years old. I no longer compete in ODE's and jumping, but have competed previously at Open level, but now enjoy trail rides, long walks on the beach and endurance riding. I also enjoy riding with my daughter who is also a member at Mangere Pony Club. On my previous horse, Tahi, I was an endurance champion and you may have seen me at any one of our ODE's as the mounted Cross Country runner on her. (Glowing white horse with black/brown socks). Finn has some very big shoes to fill, but we have high hopes for him. I am currently grazing manager at Pony Club, but my previous roles include President and Secretary. I also instruct the young D and D+ riders in Rally, and travel all over Auckland clipping horses. I firmly believe there is nothing better than after a hard day at work, having a relaxing ride on your horse to help keep you sane.
About Mangere Pony Club
Mangere Pony Club riding members generally have their own horse or pony. We also have a ‘Riders Without Horses Programme’ for members who do not have their own horse or pony where they can learn about everything involved in caring for a horse without having to make the commitment of buying one. See ‘News and Events’ for more information on this programme. Overall, Mangere Pony Club is a fun and supportive environment for children who want to own their own horse or pony. We also have a few adult members who are always willing to help the younger ones. Mangere Pony Club facilitates and encourages the development of riding and horse management skills and achievement of NZPCA certificates by our members. Our members ride in weekly ‘rallies’ during the summer season and we have a mix of riders at all different certificate levels. At each rally members are split up into groups and coached in riding and horse management skills by qualified instructors. There are also inter-pony club team competitions each season which Mangere members are encouraged to enter. At these they get the chance to compete against teams from other pony clubs in the Auckland and Manukau districts and these are always a lot of fun.
Mangere Pony Club has excellent facilities to help our members develop and grow in their riding (see ‘Facilities’) including two arenas and a full cross country course. Mangere Pony Club provides on-site grazing for our members but not all members graze on site. Non-members can also use our grounds for $20 per combination.
All members must abide by the NZPCA ‘Fair Play Charter’ (see below) at all times.
